Embla Books, the digital-first imprint of Bonnier Books UK, has acquired It’s Not Me It’s You, a “gripping” thriller from debut author Charlotte Bigland.
Hannah Smith, editorial director, snapped up world English language rights in a two-book deal with Amy St Johnston at Aitken Alexander.
It’s Not Me It’s You, the first book under contract, is being described as a heart-racing thriller perfect for fans of Netflix’s smash hit You. The debut follows Jen, a twenty-three-year-old woman who has just moved to London. Jen knows she’s a serial dater, but is she a serial killer? As the bodies of her dates begin to wash up on the banks of the Thames, Jen is the only common denominator, and suddenly the police are looking at her.
Hannah Smith said, “This was a book that kept me reading until 3am. The moment I started; I couldn’t stop. Charlotte captures both the London dating world, the loneliness and fear of moving to the city as well as the tension and underlying dread of Jen’s situation so perfectly. Immediately I knew this was a very special book, and one that will leave you questioning all of your own relationships and trusting no one.”
Charlotte Bigland said, “I’m absolutely thrilled to have signed with Embla. The team are incredibly passionate and skilled, and I know they’ll do an amazing job of bringing my work to life. Having a book published has been my dream ever since I was old enough to pick up a pen, and I’m so grateful to my agent Amy at Aitken Alexander, and Hannah at Embla for enjoying my writing enough to put it out into the world.”
It’s Not Me It’s You will publish in August 2022 with the second book to follow in 2023.
