Lagom, an imprint of Kings Road Publishing, is set to publish a “hopeful and honest” memoir of baby loss by Elle Wright. Lagom signed world language rights from Lauren Gardner at Bell Lomax.
Elle Wright lost her baby Teddy on the 19th May 2016, only three days after his birth. In this honest, beautifully written memoir and open exploration of mothering, she shows us how she navigated a motherhood no one had prepared her for.
In January 2017, six months after losing Teddy, Elle started her blog Feathering the Empty Nest. Her message clearly struck a chord, and just over a year later it now has over 100k visits a month.
This book is a moving account of Elle’s pregnancy, Teddy’s life, and what happened after Elle left hospital empty-handed. Elle Wright and Lagom are extremely happy to be supporting Tommy’s, the UK’s leading baby charity, through donations from the sale of the book.
I feel so incredibly proud to be able to champion and normalise the discussion of this narrative of motherhood that so many of us find ourselves living each day.
-Elle Wright
Elle said: “To say I am honoured to have been able to put Teddy’s story and our family experience into a book would be the hugest understatement. I feel so incredibly proud to be able to champion and normalise the discussion of this narrative of motherhood that so many of us find ourselves living each day. When we lost Teddy, I looked for something that would speak to me that would tell me I would learn to live and to laugh again, and I couldn’t find it. This book represents the hope, light and humour I was looking for in that moment, and will hopefully prove as a worthwhile tool to friends and families of bereaved parents, or those just looking to learn a little more about what it’s like to live through the unthinkable. I cannot thank Lagom enough for allowing me to realise this dream of sharing Teddy’s story with the world and raising much needed funds for Tommy’s The Baby Charity, and I am so excited to share it with you all.“
Tommy’s Charity said: “Elle’s book is a raw, honest and inspiring account of Teddy and Elle’s own motherhood. It will help so many parents going through bereavement, and we are honoured to receive donations from each copy sold. All the money raised will help us fund our vital research into stopping miscarriage, stillbirth and babies born too soon or lost to neonatal death.”
Elle is at the forefront of driving awareness in everything she does.
-Beth Eynon, Editor, Blink Publishing
Beth Eynon, Editor, Blink Publishing, said: “I could not be more proud to be publishing Elle’s moving and much-needed memoir here at Lagom. Elle’s bravery, humour and strength to learn how to live again after devastating loss are captured in this incredible book, which shows exactly why we need to talk about child loss more and why this book is so necessary to aid the conversation around this horribly difficult topic. Elle is at the forefront of driving awareness in everything she does. This is a beautiful book, inside and out, that shows how Elle learnt how to mother her baby who didn’t get to come home with her.”
The book, as yet untitled, is set to publish on 20th September 2018, ahead of Baby Loss Awareness Week on the 9th October.
